Technology changes quickly, and our working patterns often change just as quickly in order to adapt. But the next 10 years will bring changes that are even more profound, as separate lines of scientific endeavours converge to unleash even more bizarre products and services onto the world.
Many of these future techs are visible today, and some have been a long time coming. Others are yet to be dreamt up. But as the pace of change accelerates, the only thing we can be sure of is that the way we do business in the future will be very different from today.
1. Artificial intelligence
Apple’s Siri and Microsoft’s Cortana can be handy for simple tasks such as finding phone numbers and reading email. But the next generation of personal assistant will harness the power of artificial intelligence to become true personal agents, scheduling meetings and booking rooms, hunting down the best deals, hiring taxis or even recommending how we spend our days to meet our targets. We will carry our personal assistants with us, and if the film Her is anything to go by, they might even become our companions – or at least much better automated customer service!
